Children’s Table Update: Summer Break

Last Sunday (May 26/19) was the last Children’s Table before this program takes a break for June, July and August.
The congregation offers a huge thank you to our Children’s Table Coordinator, Katelyn McIntyre, for her creative and caring ministry with the younger crowd on Sunday mornings throughout this year. We look forward to Katelyn’s return to her position as Children’s Table Coordinator in September.

This week, please remember the congregation and staff of Westworth United Church in your thoughts and prayers.

This sunday at Westminster: Communion Service

Please join us at 10:30am for our June Communion Service. Our June and August Communion Offering is designated for the Make Room In Your Heart Capital Campaign at Siloam Mission. Homelessness is a growing issue in our community. We need to expand and MAKE ROOM to better meet the growing needs of this vulnerable population until we end homelessness.

Golf tournament

The Twenty-Second Westminster Open Golf Tournament is scheduled for TUESDAY, JUNE 4 at River Oaks Golf Course. Please mark your calendars.

Nathan’s Notes

Lobe den Herren is the German name for the tune we use in our last hymn this morning. It’s most commonly sung with the words “Praise to the Lord the Almighty.” But as with most popular tunes, the text can vary, and there are no less than 57 different settings of this tune! The author, Shirley Erena Murray gives us an early preview of Pentecost – urging us to embrace Christ’s mission — even if it means doing things that make us uncomfortable. Are you uncomfortable singing these new unfamiliar words to a comfortable tune?

These Days

The summer edition of These Days, Daily Devotions for Living by Faith, are now available for pick up from the Narthex or Hallway tables in either regular or large print.

Westminster Church Walkathon

Big Steps for Little Kids

The Inner & Outer Connections Committee (formerly Outreach) invites fit & active members of the congregation to take part in a Walkathon in support of Mulvey School and Westminster Daycare on Sunday June 2nd, 2019. The objective is to raise $1,500 for reading programmes and other enrichment activities and for indoor shoes. We ask participants to solicit sponsorships from families, friends and acquaintances, as well as from the congregation of Westminster Church. Anyone wishing to enjoy the walk and fellowship without soliciting sponsorships can do so for a $10 donation.

Following a light lunch at the Church on Sunday June 2nd, participants will gather at the home of Carol Harvey, 132 Riverbend Crescent at 1:00 p.m. Our route starts on Riverbend Crescent, then heads West on the footpaths alongside the Assiniboine River, across the Assiniboine Park footbridge, then east through the Park and along the Wellington Crescent footpaths back to the starting point.

This is a lovely, leafy circuit of approximately 5 kilometers. Children welcome. The walk ends at Carol’s home for light refreshments and fellowship.

Manitoba Marathon

REMINDER to The Manitoba Marathon happens on Sunday, June 16, 2019. During the race it will be necessary to temporarily close some streets, while others will have traffic restrictions. Depending on your location along the route, your drive to church may or may not be affected. Route maps are available on the narthex and hallway tables or online at manitobamarathon.mb.ca.
