In our thoughts and prayers …

This week we hold in our thoughts and prayers, the volunteers, staff and guests of Oak Table Community Ministry.

All children are invited to gather at the Children’s Table following the anthem for a quiet activity. Along with a craft activity they will find Children’s Bulletins in two different developmental levels containing activities relating to the day. During Epiphany we celebrate Jesus’ sharing the good news with everyone. This Sunday, January 28, at the Children’s Table create a paper prayer chain to help you remember all the people you are connected to and how you too can share the good news of God’s love with everyone.
For more information about the Children’s Table, contact Teri Skakum, Child and Family Coordinator, at teri@

Quilting Group looking for work!

The quilting group is looking for work. If you have (or someone you know has) a quilt top that is ready for quilting, let them know. Their rates are very reasonable and the proceeds go to Westminster Church. Please contact Grace Aoki or the church office if you can help to keep these ladies out of mischief on Thursdays.

Notes from the Board:

  • At the February 16th meeting of the Board, we welcomed Randy Horel, the Access Store, and Ralph Guy, High Road Property Services who presented proposal options for a 4-stage lift from the Gymnasium to the Concert Hall.
  • The 2011 WOW Report was reviewed, and set aside as the priorities it outlined are covered by the Strategic Review.
  • Work on reviewing the 2014 Strategic plan was begun, beginning with the Mission, Values and Vision Statements. There was thoughtful discussion and ideas were pinned for further discussion at the board.
  • Continuing work on the Strategic Plan will be allotted time each month until all topics have been reviewed, at which time the ideas will be presented to the wider congregation.

Please feel free to ask for information at any time from me or any Board member as we continue this exciting step on Westminster’s next 125 years — Carol Latter.

Understanding Dementia

As we age, we become increasingly concerned about dementia. What are the warning signs, the risk factors, and protective factors? How do we get a diagnosis? Are there myths and misconceptions that need to be dispelled? On Monday, February 5 at 7 p.m., Crescent Fort Rouge United Church will be hosting a Dementia Information Session, resourced by the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. This is an open session.

Next Sunday, Feb. 4th we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Communion. Your Communion offering will be designated for the work of the Minister’s Discretionary Fund (formerly the Session Fund). Money to this fund is distributed to individuals at the discretion of the minister in cases of urgent and/or serious need. Small brown envelopes may be found in front of your envelope box or on the narthex or hallways tables. If you use an envelope from the pew rack, please mark it Communion offering.
